Lufthansa awards contract to Hoeft & Wessel
310 self-service check-in terminals
New generation of the almex.express

Press Release

Hanover, 02 July 2008. Hoeft & Wessel AG, of Hanover/Germany, succeeded with a contract for the supply of 310 self-service check-in terminals of the type almex.express from Deutsche Lufthansa Aktiengesellschaft, Frankfurt. These terminals allow airline passengers to complete the entire check-in procedure without the need to queue up at a counter. The devices to be supplied under this contract are to be installed in airports across Europe, replacing the five to eight-year old generation of predecessor devices also supplied by Hoeft & Wessel. Roll-out is scheduled by the end of 2008.

The terminal is a new generation system. In terms of its design and user interface elements, the new terminal is the result of ongoing development based on the predecessor generation. Its ergonomic layout has been redesigned and allows Lufthansa customers a quick and easy use of the terminals. The new almex.express terminals equipped for the first time with Quickmove facilitate flexible relocation within airports.

With this new generation of terminals, Hoeft & Wessel is meeting the requirements for the new e-ticketing procedures in civil aviation. With more than 1,000 self-service check-in terminals of its Almex brand already installed, Hoeft & Wessel is one of Europe’s leading suppliers in this field. “This contract will allow us to consolidate our strong market position in Europe, and we are confident that it will serve as a reference to help us gain additional orders,” explains Thomas Wolf, member of the Management Board of Hoeft & Wessel AG, responsible for the Ticketing division with the Almex brand.

Hoeft & Wessel expects continuing growth in the demand for self-service terminals over the next five years. “The change to 2 D barcodes as part of E-ticketing decreases the total cost of ownership of self-service terminals and hence increases the circle of potential customers,” said Wolf in explaining the outlook for these terminals.
